York is one of Britain's favourite tourist destinations,
second only to London in the number of visitors it attracts. And it’s
easy to see why. There is so much to see and do, from visiting the
Minster to following the Roman walls, going on one of the many ghost
walks to viewing the City from the top of the ancient clifford’s
tower or one of the many river boats.
There’s the races and the railway museum, afternoon tea in the
world-famous Betty’s, or a pint in one of the 365 pubs. The sea is less
than an hour away at Scarborough, as is the Yorkshire Moors, the Dales,
Bronte Country, Castle Howard, the Earth Centre and so much more.
We love York.
It is small enough to walk everywhere you want to go, but big enough to
have loads of things to do and places to go. It has some of the most
interesting architecture, the best shopping, the most fascinating
history and most beautiful countryside in Britain. You can walk round
the city centre in a couple of hours, without hardly leaving the old
Roman wall. You can chose from one of around a dozen ghost tours. You
can go back in time to Viking York or Victorian Britain. You can stay
for a year and, supposedly visit a different pub every night. You can
reach the coast and the moors in under an hour. Or, in the right
weather, you can simply throw open the windows and smell the chocolate
from the Nestle factory.
